Where Does The Money Go?

Change From 1998 Millage as of 1/1/07
School District 35% Increase 120.33
County 44% Increase 21.94
Township 4% Decrease 16.05
Fire & Rescue 40% Increase 2.45

Because County and Township tax bills are combined & the Fire and Rescue Millage is also included, you may not know that Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and the Township Council reduced property taxes by 4% since 1998!

Unfortunately, during that same time period, School taxes went up 35%, Fire and Rescue taxes went up 40% and County taxes went up 44%!

School District $0.74 County $0.14 Township $0.10 Fire & Rescue $0.02

Bucks County, Bensalem Township and the Bensalem School District are separate entities and do NOT share revenue. County taxes are levied by the Bucks County Commissioners, Township taxes are levied by Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and the Town Council: Ed Kisselback, John DiEgidio, Bryan Allen, Joe Pilieri and Joe Szafran, and School taxes are levied by the Board of School Directors. As of January 2005, the Bensalem School District gets 74% of every tax dollar, Bucks County gets 14% of every tax dollar, Bensalem Township gets 10% of every tax dollar, and the Fire Companies and Rescue Squad get 2% of every tax dollar. This ratio is subject to change in June, which is when the School District will adopt its budget for the next school year.

Bensalem's School system provides learning and preparation for our youth at every level. Our achievements in science, arts, music and sports support and encourage our youth to excel.

Holy Ghost Preparatory High School is a local private school of national recognition.
